I know what you 're believing : 17 hundred bucks or maybe more for your mere midrange zoom? There is nothing "mere" regarding it zoom! Wide open, Nikon's new workhorse is sharper than most primary lenses. That's right -- I shoot daylong at f 2.8 (I like resulting blurry backgrounds) and never, never shortcomings for sharpness. Being ready shoot f 2.8 in the evening does n't stink, either.

Colors are vibrant, the bokeh (out of focus regions) is steamy, and you'll see spooks and flares only when piping direct into the sun. And I 've never watched an autofocus do its affair so rapidly or with in such accuracy. I 'm picking up lots of shootings I used to miss.
