Hi, do you ever heard about weather proof camera? The Pentax K-7 is built similar to tank yet is small and lightweight. You could carry this camrea for at least 100 miles of hiking (not all in one day) and it is a joy. Easily hangs behind your arm while walking on your trips. Performance really fast and reliable in all conditions either indoors or outdoors. If you want startup time can be greatly improved, turn off the shake reduction when you are not needed it.
For additional bonus, the lens "kit" included with K-7 body is exceptional. Canon and Nikon proud in providing the most ridiculously crappy lenses in their "kits". So much plastic you can not even use them like a paper weights. But the Pentax DA 18-55 mm is amazing! Weather sealed, smooth manual focus, and very astonishing high quality optics.
