The VR mechanism is very efficient and helpful in keeping the photos sharp even while shooting at low shutter speeds in low-light conditions. The 1-stop control over the former version, the VR1, makes a substantial difference, especially when shooting this lens from extended to maximum focal distance with no monopod or tripod support. Being able to shoot hand held at 1 10th at 200mm is no gentle task but it is entirely possible in this new version.
